The honor highlights presses that exemplify the spirit of indie publishing. Now in its 85th year, the University of Nebraska Press publishes about 150 titles annually across multiple imprints, including Bison Books and Potomac Books. Some recent highlights featured in Nebraska Today include the University of Nebraska Press’ award-winning collections in poetry and baseball history.

The press publishes academic works, general interest nonfiction, poetry and fiction, and is frequently recognized by reviewers and INDIES judges.

Foreword Reviews also announced winners of the INDIES Book of the Year Awards, which honor outstanding books published by small, independent and university presses.

Among this year’s winners is “Scarlett: Slavery’s Enduring Legacy in an American Family” by Leslie Stainton, published by Potomac Books.

The honors from Foreword Reviews are for works published in 2025.
