Distinguishing Nebraska’s Land-Grant Institution
To distinguish its place in the higher education landscape, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has committed to articulating its research identity. UNL’s research identity framework also is a response to “Odyssey to Extraordinary,” the strategic plan for the University of Nebraska System, which calls for building a strong research identity in areas of excellence.
Shaped by Faculty
Following the introduction of the research identity areas in spring 2025, faculty volunteers have written draft description areas for consideration by the campus, provided feedback on initial drafts and helped shape each research identity area. Faculty workshops will be held throughout spring 2026 to continue this work, including generating ideas for projects, partnerships and more.
