Tony Boccanfuso
Anthony M. (Tony) Boccanfuso, Ph.D., has led UIDP as chief executive since 2007, driving its mission to strengthen collaborations among leading companies, research universities, government and nonprofits. He has transformed UIDP into a trusted resource for advancing public-private partnerships that fuel innovation in areas ranging from contracting and commercialization to workforce development. He initiated the Strengthen and Modernize University-Industry Partnerships Initiative (SAMI) to reimagine cross-sector collaboration and created UI-Collab, UIDP’s global consulting practice that delivers specialized guidance to optimize research and innovation enterprises.
With more than 30 years of leadership experience at organizations including the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health and PricewaterhouseCoopers, Tony is recognized for his expertise in building innovation ecosystems. He holds a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry and a B.A. in chemistry and political science.
Tony and his wife, Dr. Laura Boccanfuso, founder of Van Robotics, live in South Carolina and have three children: Carolina, a registered nurse; Michael, a mechanical engineer; and Ana Catherine, a software engineer.

Kei Koizumi
Kei Koizumi (he/his) is a longtime science policy leader, science policy researcher and social scientist in Washington, D.C. From January 2021 to January 2025, he served as President Joe Biden’s appointee at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, most recently as special assistant to the president and principal deputy director for science, society, and policy; earlier as principal deputy director for policy, chief of staff, and acting director. He was also acting executive director of the National Science and Technology Council from 2022-2024. Before that, he served as senior advisor for science policy at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) between 2017 and 2019. He was assistant director for federal research and development, and senior advisor for the National Science and Technology Council, at OSTP from 2009 to 2016, during the Obama administration. Before that, he was the longtime director of the AAAS R&D Budget and Policy Program. Koizumi received a master’s degree in international science and technology policy at the George Washington University, where he has taught science policy, and his bachelor’s degree in political science and economics from Boston University. He is a fellow of the AAAS.

Kathleen Lodl
Dr. Kathleen Lodl serves as associate dean of Nebraska Extension and Nebraska 4-H program administrator. In 2020, she took on the role as the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s lead for campus engagement. In that position, she led the university’s effort to secure the Carnegie Foundation’s community engagement classification in 2024. The designation recognizes higher education institutions for excellence in wide-ranging outreach efforts that engage faculty with local communities in co-creating solutions to real-life problems.
As part of this work, the university formed an Engagement Collaborative aimed at uniting various campus units to broaden Nebraska’s engagement in community, industry and global partnerships. Alongside that, the campus community developed a strategic plan for engagement. The university is committed to ongoing efforts to provide professional development for faculty focused on engagement; incorporate the scholarship of engagement in promotion and tenure guidelines; and document UNL’s statewide research and impact.

Alan L. Dostal
Alan L. Dostal is the associate director of research for the Nebraska Public Power District, where he has been employed for 47 years. His tenure includes serving as the corporate nuclear business manager, where he was responsible for corporate nuclear-related activities. Dostal was also responsible for leading NPPD’s Domestic Energy Research and Application Initiative. A key element of this initiative was the establishment of the Nebraska Center for Energy Sciences Research, in partnership with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, in 2006. He is still active in the center.
Dostal graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1974 with a bachelor’s degree in construction management. He earned his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 1989.

Dan Hoffman
Dan Hoffman is the chief executive officer of Invest Nebraska, an investment firm providing financial and operational assistance to high growth companies across Nebraska.
Hoffman has been actively involved in building the support ecosystem for new Nebraska enterprises for over 17 years, working with a variety of public and private sector partners. He currently serves on the board of directors for Nebraska Innovation Campus, Nebraska Diplomats and NMotion; as well as on the board of advisors for both the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Engineering and Tech Nebraska.
Additionally, Hoffman is a member of both the Nebraska Economic Developers Association and the Agriculture Builders of Nebraska.
In 2017, Hoffman was awarded the Entrepreneurship Advocate Award by UNL’s Center for Entrepreneurship. Prior to joining Invest Nebraska, Hoffman served as senior policy adviser to Gov. Dave Heineman and Gov. Mike Johanns.

Kim Morrow
Kim Morrow serves as the chief sustainability officer for the city of Lincoln, where she is leading the transition to a climate-smart and equitable future. As architect of the city’s 2021 Climate Action Plan, she now leads cross-sector teams advancing its 118 initiatives across eight sectors. Kim has worked to address climate change for more than 15 years in consulting, nonprofits, higher education and faith-based organizations. In 2015, she was honored at the Obama White House as a “Champion of Change” for her work with faith communities. She serves on the boards of the Nature Conservancy–Nebraska, the Midwest Climate Collaborative, the Nebraska Clean Cities and Communities Collaborative and the District Energy Corporation. Kim holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz; a master of divinity degree from Pacific School of Religion; and a Specialized Certificate in Sustainability and Behavior Change from the University of California, San Diego.

Jeff Raikes
Jeff Raikes is the co-founder of the Raikes Foundation, alongside his wife, Tricia.
The Raikes Foundation “works toward a just and inclusive society where all young people have the support they need to reach their full potential.” Areas of focus for the foundation include the educational system, youth homelessness and “helping individual donors and philanthropic organizations increase the impact of their giving.”
Raikes is the former chief executive officer of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where he led the foundation’s efforts to promote equity for people around the world. Before joining the foundation, he was president of Microsoft’s Business Division and served as a member of the company’s senior leadership team. Raikes began his career with Microsoft in 1981 and was instrumental in creating the Microsoft Office suite of productivity applications.
Currently, Raikes is part of the ownership group of the Seattle Mariners and serves on its board. He also serves on the boards of Costco Wholesale Corporation, UNL’s Jeffrey S. Raikes School of Computer Science and Management, Green Diamond Resource Company, EpiCrop Technologies, EpiMethyl Analytics, Hudl and Lumen Bioscience.
Additionally, after ten years of board service, Raikes is chair emeritus of Stanford University.

Jill Jividen
Jill Jividen, Ph.D., is assistant vice president for research development at the University of Michigan. Jill established Office of Research Development within the U-M Office of the Vice President for Research in 2019 and now oversees core research and development services, the Bold Challenges initiative, strategic intelligence and the Faculty Honorifics Office. Those teams work together to catalyze and build capacity for large-scale, interdisciplinary research activities across U-M’s three campuses. Jill holds degrees in journalism, English and American literature from Michigan State University (B.A.), New York University (M.A.) and the University of South Carolina (Ph.D.). After starting her career in R&D in 2014, Jill served on the board of directors of the National Organization of Research Development Professionals (NORDP) from 2018 to 2023 and was the 2021-2022 NORDP president. She was recognized in 2023 with the Holly J. Falk-Krzesinski Service Award, the highest honor NORDP bestows on members for outstanding service to the organization, profession and peers. She also received the 2025 NORDP Leadership Award.

Katie Shoaf
Katie Shoaf is associate director of grants resources and services in the Office of Research and Innovation at Appalachian State University. She works with faculty and staff to provide the guidance, expertise and content necessary to support their research pursuits. This involves support for developing and submitting proposals for targeted funding opportunities, including large, collaborative proposals. She also develops and designs programs to advance faculty success in research and provides facilitation support for multidisciplinary and collaborative research collider and ideation events.
Katie is a member, volunteer and board member for the National Organization of Research Development Professionals. She has extensive experience building curricula and programming for research and development content and disseminating it in virtual and in-person formats. She has a Ph.D. in leadership studies from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where she focused on how research leadership can positively impact the job satisfaction of faculty researchers. She also has a master’s degree in romance languages, a master of library science degree, a graduate certificate in rhetoric and composition, and a bachelor’s degree in both English and Spanish, all from Appalachian State.
