Husker team earns elite NSF award to drive next generation of materials research

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln will establish a Materials Research Science and Engineering Center after earning a highly competitive six-year, $18 million grant from the National Science Foundation.

Nebraska is one of six institutions to receive funding this year through NSF’s MRSEC program, which has helped put the U.S. at the forefront of scientific advancement for more than 50 years.

NSF awards $10M to Nebraska EPSCoR for statewide STEM growth

The University of Nebraska’s Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research, known as EPSCoR, has received a four-year, $10 million award from the U.S. National Science Foundation. The award will strengthen statewide research partnerships, expand STEM opportunities and support innovation across Nebraska.

Startup harnesses gait data to improve health outcomes

Harnessing the power of gait as a biomarker is the concept behind Grasshopper Health, a startup launched by University of Nebraska–Lincoln engineer Fadi Alsaleem to commercialize a wearable, low-cost medical device that continuously delivers gait data to a patient’s smartphone and a provider’s chart. The goal of this device — called the Axis Patch — is to pave the way for earlier diagnoses, improved treatments and better tracking of how well certain interventions, like medicine or surgery, are working.
