Overview
To support a smooth and successful submission process, the following outlines the levels of review OSP can provide based on when a complete proposal is ready. The earlier your proposal is finalized, the more comprehensive and supportive OSP’s review can be in ensuring compliance and timely submission. Please note that the level of review may also be affected by overall proposal volume, particularly near major deadlines.
What We Mean by “Ready for Review”
A proposal is considered ready for OSP review when:
- A NuRamp form is routing for approvals (i.e. UNL budget template, budget justification, and draft narrative or scope of work)
- All required sponsor documents are completed and uploaded to the sponsor submission system (a draft version of the narrative is acceptable)
7 or More Business Days Before Deadline
Full Review
- Detailed budget and budget justification review
- Review of sponsor-specific budget form(s)
- Comprehensive review of required sponsor components, formatting, and subaward documentation
3-6 Business Days Before Deadline
Intermediate Review
- Detailed budget and justification review
- Review of sponsor-specific budget form(s)
- Targeted review of required proposal components and subaward documentation
2 Business Days or Less Before Deadline*
Minimal Review
- Budget and justification reviewed for institutional compliance
- Minimal review of required proposal components
- Confirmation of receipt of subaward documentation
* Submission-focused – OSP will do its best to try and get the proposal submitted; however, under 2 business days we may not be able to:
- Provide full institutional or sponsor compliance review
- Ensure completeness or correctness
Planning Ahead for Complex Proposals
If you are preparing a large or multi-institutional proposal, we encourage you to contact your OSP Pre-Award Coordinator as early as possible – ideally at the start of proposal planning. These proposals often involve additional layers of review and coordination, and early collaboration helps ensure a smooth submission.
