Register by Thursday for REU workshop
Building a strong culture of undergraduate research is key to preparing students for graduate school. An April 14 workshop and luncheon will give UNL faculty tools for hosting summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates, a partnership with the National Science Foundation. Registration is due April 9.
The workshop is 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Nebraska Union Regency Suite. Faculty in arts and sciences, agriculture and natural resources, and engineering are especially encouraged to attend. This event is part of the spring UNL Research Fair.
Participants will learn about NSF grants available to host REUs, as well as institutional resources. UNL faculty who are managing REU sites will share their insights on running a successful REU. Speakers include:
- Donald Becker, Charles Bessey Professor of biochemistry, and director, Redox Biology Center;
- Kirk Dombrowski, professor of sociology;
- Maggie Jobes, assistant director of graduate recruitment, Office of Graduate Studies; and
- Matthew Dwyer, proposal development specialist, Office of Research and Economic Development.
