Office of Research and Innovation announces name change

Nebraska Research is fulfilling its mission under a new name: the Office of Research and Innovation.

The name Office of Research and Innovation more accurately reflects the university’s goals and the office’s mission to support a culture and environment for success, said Sherri Jones, interim vice chancellor for research and innovation.

The updated name also aligns with trends in the Big Ten Conference and nationally. Research and Innovation – R&I for shorthand – celebrates the role of discovery, creativity and innovation in solving global problems and stimulating economic growth in the state of Nebraska, Jones said.

Institutions in the Big Ten have made similar name changes in recent years.

The unit had been called the Office of Research and Economic Development since 2009.
