The University of Nebraska-Lincoln research community is invited to attend Nebraska Research Days, scheduled for Nov. 17-21 with both virtual and in-person offerings.
Nebraska Research Days are sponsored by the Office of Research and Innovation in cooperation with university partners. Events are geared toward faculty and postdocs but are open to the campus. Registration is still open for many of the week’s events.
Nov. 17
The annual Innovators Celebration, hosted by NUtech Ventures, will recognize university inventors and industry partners who are developing and commercializing cutting-edge research. This year’s recipients of the annual Innovator Awards will be recognized during an invitation-only banquet.
Nov. 18
9-10 a.m., virtual: A Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program information session is geared toward Nebraska faculty members who are interested in applying to the program. Jemina Bouma Perez, outreach and recruitment officer for the Fulbright program, will offer an overview of the program and the types of awards available and offer advice on the application process. A Q&A session will follow her presentation. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link.
3-4 p.m., virtual: “Department of Defense Funding for University Researchers” is aimed at helping university researchers learn how to work with the DOD. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link. The presenter is Julia G. Barzyk, founder of Wise Investigator LLC and a former program manager at the U.S. Army Research Office, where she managed a portfolio of basic research in geoscience and civil engineering. Barzyk will share how the DOD approach differs from other agencies and how to build connections.
Nov. 19
4-6 p.m., Wick Alumni Center: The annual Faculty Research and Creative Activity Slam will feature highly engaging five-minute presentations by Nebraska faculty. A panel of judges from the Lincoln community will select the Slam winner, who will receive a monetary prize, and audience members will vote to select an audience choice award. Registration is required. The event is open to faculty and postdoc attendees. Guests must be at least 21 years old to attend the Slam.

- Jamilla Teixeira, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering, “From Waste to Roadways: The Plastic Revolution Beneath Our Wheels.”
- Ran Wang, assistant professor in the School of Natural Resources, “Breathing Earth: Monitoring Ecosystem Physiology from ABOVE.”
- Susan VanderPlas, associate professor of statistics, “Data Visualizations: Intuitive Statistics Without Fear.”
- Shannon Bartelt-Hunt, Donald R. Voelte Jr. and Nancy A. Keegan Chair and professor of civil and environmental engineering; “Clean Water: Honestly, it is for Everyone.”
Nov. 20
11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Nebraska East Union, Great Plains Room: An Association for Women in Science luncheon will celebrate women in science and their impact. The keynote speaker is Susan A. Martinis, vice chancellor for research and innovation at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She will present “GO BIG: A Career Journey of Leadership in STEM,” which will draw on her diverse experiences as a woman in science. Martinis has thrived in multiple roles across her career, including as a researcher in the private
sector and academia, an educator and an academic administrator. Registration is required.
Nov. 21
8:30-10:30 a.m., Willa Cather Dining Center, Red Cloud Suite: The Faculty Recognition Breakfast will celebrate Nebraska’s research, scholarly and creative accomplishments in 2025. Jen Nelson, interim vice chancellor for research and innovation, will give remarks. Registration is required.
