The Research Compliance, Integrity and Security team recently made policy updates to the university’s Human Research Protection Program aimed at adjusting language to apply to current practices of recruitment material review and approval as well as dissemination practices, including online media sources and remote consent. The updates became effective March 27.
Policy #3.016, titled “Recruitment of Participants,” was revised throughout to match current IRB application submission practices for all research and to more broadly apply to social media practices. All social media practices must comply with university policies and the social media site’s terms and policies.
Policy #9.003, titled “Remote Consent,” was revised throughout to describe practices and applicable policies when remote consent includes telephone, videoconferencing or use of desktop, mobile or web-based applications or similar technologies for research greater and not greater than minimal risk. This policy also aligns with current practices for remote re-consent.
Policies #3.004, “Criteria for IRB Approval of Research,” and #9.001, “Required Elements for Informed Consent Documents,” were also revised to align with the updates described above.
