ORED launches Research Participant Compensation Process website

The Office of Research and Economic Development has launched a new website outlining the process for compensating individuals who participate in University of Nebraska-Lincoln research studies that are approved by the Institutional Review Board.

The Research Participant Compensation Process website provides a comprehensive explanation of using gift cards, cash or checks as payment mechanisms and provides guidance about when it’s necessary to gather research participant tax information. The site includes information about Virtual Incentives, a digital rewards platform that enables swift payment processing and a customizable compensation experience. The university adopted the platform in January.

There are also new research participant compensation forms – one for payments of $100 or less, and another for payments greater than $100 – that researchers should begin using immediately. These forms are located on Research Compliance Services’ Guidance Topics (A-Z) website, under the heading “Compensation/Incentives and Accounting Guidance.”

Direct any questions about the new process to research-giftcards@unl.edu.
