New attending veterinarian on board
Stephanie Butler is UNL’s new attending veterinarian.
She is responsible for providing clinical care and oversight of the health and welfare for animals used in UNL research, teaching and extension education, including a program of veterinary care and preventive medicine. She is a voting member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, which approves all use of animals at UNL, and she will assist faculty in developing applications and protocols for use of animals. She also will provide training in animal handling and care, surgical procedures, facilities management and compliance with federal regulations concerning the use of animals.
Butler joined UNL June 29. Previously, she was a clinical veterinarian at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Earlier, she was assistant veterinarian at the Southwest National Primate Research Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Butler earned her doctor of veterinary medicine degree at Mississippi State University and her master’s degree in epidemiology from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. She holds a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Louisiana Tech University. She completed her residency at the University of Tennessee’s Health Sciences Center.
