The Office of Research and Economic Development is sponsoring an internal competition to select UNL’s applicants for the 2017 National Science Foundation Major Research Instrumentation program. Interested faculty should notify ORED of their intent to submit a proposal for the internal competition by 5 p.m. Oct. 3. Internal pre-proposals are due Oct. 17.

The MRI program aims to increase access to shared scientific and engineering instruments for research and research training that typically are too costly or not appropriate for support through other NSF programs. The program enables organizations to acquire instrumentation tailored to the group’s goals and that may be shared with other researchers regionally or nationally. UNL can submit a maximum of three full proposals to NSF – two in the instrument acquisition category and one in the instrument development category. UNL’s internal competition will select the top pre-proposals to be developed into full proposals for submission to NSF. The NSF deadline for full proposals is Jan. 11, 2017.

To learn more about the selection process for internal competitions and to complete the Notification of Intent to Submit form, visit ORED’s Limited Submissions Funding Programs website. The full MRI solicitation is available here.
