University Libraries entered into a new Open Access publishing agreement with the Association for Computing Machinery on Jan. 1.

The Libraries’ participation in the ACM Open program permits corresponding authors affiliated with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to publish their articles in ACM journals, conference proceedings, or magazines at no cost to themselves. The associated publication charges, known as Article Processing Charges, or APCs, are covered by the UNL Libraries.

This new agreement complements the Libraries’ existing agreements covering OA publishing with a number of major academic publishers, as listed on the Open Access Publishing Agreements page. UNL Libraries have provided more than $250,000 in APC cost avoidance to authors since 2021.

Corresponding authors must be affiliated with UNL to be eligible for the APC waiver from ACM. Authors publishing OA will retain copyright, and the article will be published under a CC-BY or CC-BY-NC-ND license.  For more information, contact David Macaulay, electronic resources librarian.  Regardless of where they publish, UNL authors also can make their articles openly available (publisher agreement permitting) at no cost via the UNL Libraries Digital Commons repository. For assistance in depositing documents or for more information regarding the Digital Commons, contact Melissa Gomis, or Linnea Fredrickson, email.
