The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee is hosting general regulation training sessions Jan. 16-17 that address laws and regulations for laboratory and food animals in research, testing and teaching.
The first session is 10-11 a.m. Jan. 16 in the Nebraska Union, with a repeat session 10-11 a.m. Jan. 17 in the Nebraska East Union. Rooms will be posted. New university employees who have not completed general regulation training are encouraged to attend one of these sessions.
The training meets mandated requirements on animal use training for faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate and undergraduate students, teaching assistants and animal care staff. IACUC staff will discuss the university’s oversight of animal use.
Additionally, a refresher course is available Jan. 17 at 11 a.m. in the East Union for those who previously completed general regulation training and whose certification will expire soon. Researchers must complete general regulation training every five years. Principal investigators may attend this shorter session, regardless of whether they have completed the general training course.
The refresher course addresses general regulations governing the use of animals in research, and training on NUgrant’s new Animal Use Protocol Form. Topics include protocol submission, review and approval, database searches, Institutional Animal Care Program resources and updates from regulatory agencies.
