The Office of Research and Economic Development is sponsoring an internal competition to select the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s applicants for the 2017 National Institutes of Health Director’s Early Independence Award (DP5) program. Interested individuals should notify ORED of their intent to submit a proposal for the internal competition by 5 p.m. May 15. Internal pre-proposals are due June 5.

The DP5 program supports exceptional investigators who wish to pursue independent research directly after completing their terminal program/research degree or clinical residency, thereby forgoing the traditional postdoctoral training period and accelerating their entry into an independent research career. UNL can submit a maximum of two proposals to NIH. The university’s internal competition will select the top pre-proposals to be developed into full proposals for submission to NIH. The NIH deadline for full proposals is Sept. 22.

To learn more about the selection process for internal competitions and to complete the Notification of Intent to Submit form, visit ORED’s Limited Submissions Funding Programs website. The full DP5 solicitation is available here.

For more information, contact Tisha Mullen, director of proposal development, 402-472-2894.
