Developing a Competitive NSF CAREER Application: Strategies for Proposal and Project Success

December 1, 2020 | 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. | via Zoom

Overview

Each year the Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED) sponsors an early career award event for faculty aimed at providing prospective grant applicants with: 1) proposal writing advice from knowledgeable administrators and early career award recipients and 2) information about resources available at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) to support the development of grant applications.

This year's program will highlight best practices for developing an application to the National Science Foundation (NSF)’s Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program. The one-hour virtual event will feature a panel discussion with UNL faculty who have received a CAREER award. Panelists will share their experiences developing a successful CAREER proposal and field questions from the audience.

This panel discussion kicks off ORED’s 2020-2021 NSF CAREER Club, which will provide a range of targeted support in the coming months for faculty developing CAREER applications for submission in July 2021. Other planned club activities include events focused on developing strong broader impacts plans, program officer engagement, and UNL resources available to support the development of strong CAREER proposals. Participants in ORED’s NSF CAREER Club will also have opportunities to work one-on-one with Office of Proposal Development staff and ORED’s NSF consultant. UNL faculty interested in participating in the 2020-2021 NSF CAREER Club are strongly encouraged to attend this December 1 event.

 Registration

This virtual event will be held on Tuesday, December 1, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. CST via Zoom. It is free and open to University of Nebraska faculty and administrators. Participation in ORED’s CAREER Club is limited to UNL faculty; information about how to apply to participate in the club will be made available during the December 1 event. Please register to attend by Friday, November 27.
