The Research Compliance Services team recommends several new or updated resources for exploring topics related to the responsible conduct of research.
Generative AI workshop
“Promises and Pitfalls of AI for Research and Scholarship Integrity” is a free, one-day virtual conference on Nov. 12 that will facilitate a conversation about generative artificial intelligence and answer fundamental questions:
- What is generative AI?
- What are the ethical implications of using AI in research and scholarship?
- Why is protecting technology in the age of AI critical?
- How might AI affect academic publishing, peer review and the dissemination of knowledge?
The conference, held 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Eastern time, is geared toward anyone interested in responsible and ethical conduct of research education, including research integrity leaders, educators, research administrators, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars.
This year’s annual conference is sponsored by Michigan State University and the Big Ten Academic Alliance as a commitment to sharing best practices and applications of RECR education. Learn more about the conference and get registration details.
Updated federal resources for learning about RCR and ethics
The federal Office of Research Integrity has updated two key resources for learning about responsible conduct of research and ethical scenarios.
The popular interactive videos The Lab and The Research Clinic were updated to better reflect current workplace environments and concerns, including issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace, especially research settings.
For the thousands of users in the U.S. and abroad, ORI updated these videos to make them more relevant to modern audiences, addressing teachable moments missed in the original versions published a decade ago. Many updates were made in response to feedback from users and stakeholders.
The updated versions use pop-ups, voice overs and teaching text to offer additional information about issues such as harassment, unconscious bias, microaggressions, racism, workplace culture, emotional health and more.
ORI also is developing sequels to both interactive videos. The sequel to The Lab is slated for release in 2025, and the sequel to The Research Clinic will be available in 2026.
