NUtech Ventures is hosting an interactive webinar from noon to 1:15 p.m. Sept. 22, “From Research to Marketplace: An Intro to Intellectual Property for Academic Researchers.” The event will cover the basics of intellectual property and technology transfer to help faculty use available resources, avoid IP-related problems and maximize opportunities. Registration is required.

Successful research programs generate discoveries — and therefore, intellectual property — and researchers must make decisions regarding whether and how to protect those discoveries. With a working understanding of IP and technology transfer, faculty are better positioned to take advantage of commercialization opportunities and make informed decisions about publication, material sharing and other issues that impact the value of IP that results from university research.

Jessica Lewis, partner with Quarles & Brady LLP, is the guest speaker. Lewis holds a doctorate in molecular and cellular biology and specializes in IP issues related to biotechnology and life sciences. Zane Gernhart, senior technology manager, will discuss when and how university researchers should connect with the NUtech Ventures team about their work.

Registered attendees will receive a Zoom link the day before the webinar. For more information, contact Joy Eakin, operations manager, at 402-472-1783.
