NUtech Ventures will host a free noon webinar on Feb. 11 titled “Inventorship 101: Who is (and is not) an inventor?” The webinar, open to all Nebraska researchers, will feature guest speaker Karthika Perumal, partner at Womble Bond Dickinson law firm. Register to receive a Zoom link.

The webinar will review the differences between the legally defined term “inventor” and the subjectively decided term “author,” as every author of a scientific article is not necessarily an inventor on a patent that contains content from the article. If inventors in a patent are named improperly, ownership of a patent may be jeopardized. Presenters will also discuss the statutory basis of inventorship, the court decisions shaping this body of law and what acts are insufficient to be an inventor.

Faculty who are new to the area of intellectual property or would like a refresher are invited to watch NUtech’s previous webinar or visit the United States Patent and Trademark Office website to learn more. For questions, contact Joy Eakin, operations manager.
