Registration is now open for No Coast SciComm, a three-day virtual conference promoting effective strategies for engaging diverse audiences with science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
The event, hosted biennially by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, is set to take place Sept. 16-18 and will bring together researchers, students, educators, evaluators, policymakers, journalists, artists and more to share emerging practices and key insights.
The theme for the 2026 conference is Science from the Heart, centering the role of care, compassion, and connection in science communication. Featured programming includes keynote and featured speakers, interactive workshops, a livestreamed Science Slam, and short talks from conference attendees.
Those who are interested in participating in the Science Slam should apply by Sept. 8 and submit their abstract to be considered for a 15-minute conference talk.
Speakers include Allison Coffin, president of the Association of Science Communicators and co-founder of Science Talk; Katelyn Jetelina, founder of Your Local Epidemiologist and professor in the Yale School of Public Health; and Nalini Nadkarni, National Geographic Explorer-at-Large, renowned tree canopy ecologist and founder of the STEM Ambassador Program.
The program will also feature interactive workshops by Sarah Adelman, who blends rigorous scientific training with years of professional comedy to teach researchers how to communicate with clarity, warmth and impact; and J.D. Allen, an award-winning journalist, civic science media pioneer, and affiliate of the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science.
Registration is $100 for general attendees and $50 for students. The fee can be paid with a cost object. If cost is an obstacle to attending, email scicomm@unl.edu.
