New VPN system impacts access to Libraries databases, journals

Faculty and staff who use a virtual private network to access journals and database resources subscribed to by UNL Libraries will have to take additional steps to be recognized as authorized users.

Effective July 1, the new GlobalProtect VPN system assigns public IP addresses that are outside the main UNL IP address range. The range has been registered with resource providers so they can validate UNL users’ access to their paywalled materials.

For off-campus users to be recognized as authorized users of subscribed material on these provider sites, they will need to go through the Libraries’ services, even when they are using the VPN.

See the Libraries recommended steps for off-campus access via the VPN.
