NASIS offers opportunity for Husker researchers to collect pilot data

The Bureau of Sociological Research has started planning data collection for the winter 2026 Nebraska Annual Social Indicators Survey. Researchers are encouraged to use this cost-effective method of collecting pilot data for grant submissions. Nov. 1 is the deadline to indicate interest in participating in the survey.

NASIS is a probability-based mail and web survey with responses from around 1,000 Nebraska adults. It has been conducted annually since 1977 and is recognized by researchers, state agencies and legislators as a scientific way to measure public opinion and behaviors regarding various issues that face Nebraskans. BOSR works with interested researchers to develop NASIS survey items that will suit researchers’ needs and interests. It is a cost-effective way to obtain valuable survey data; the expense for obtaining basic background contextual and demographic information (e.g., age, sex, family and employment information) is shared by all participating.

Because so many researchers express interest in the summer NASIS each year, the survey is limited to 12 pages total to reduce respondent burden and keep response rates up. Knowing that space is limited in the summer, adding questions to the winter NASIS ensures researchers will get data in 2026.

In addition to receiving basic demographics in the NASIS core items, researchers also can add survey questions that reflect their own research objectives. The cost is $7,500 per page and is prorated if less than a page is used.

BOSR shares the data with only the client until one year later, when it becomes publicly available. As such, researchers have one year to conduct their analyses before anyone else may access the data.

Data collection is scheduled to begin in January 2026, with client data delivered in May. In order to stay on this timeline, BOSR would like to initiate discussions with prospective clients as soon as possible and no later than Nov. 1.

To purchase survey questions, or ask questions about possible involvement, contact Amanda Ganshert, who can review your research needs and discuss how NASIS might be used to meet them.
