The National Science Foundation has issued an FAQ document to assist investigators in completing the Collaborators and Other Affiliations spreadsheet.
NSF requires that principal investigators separately provide COA information for each individual designated as senior project personnel. On April 24, 2017, NSF issued a template that PIs are required to use in order to ensure consistency in content and format.
The FAQ document is available on the Office of Sponsored Programs forms and templates website, under the Sponsor Forms and Guidelines heading. Researchers also can download the document here. Among other COA guidelines, the FAQs clarify:
- which collaborators to include on the form;
- how to list affiliations for collaborators who have moved to another organization;
- when to list advisers; and
- how and when to list co-authors and editors.
