Nebraska Research Days will feature a Faculty Research and Creative Activity Slam at the Wick Alumni Center on Nov. 15, 4-6 p.m. Faculty from all disciplines are invited to submit short video proposals by Oct. 10 for an opportunity to present during the event.

The Slam offers faculty a platform to communicate with peers about their research, scholarship or creative activity through rapid-fire talks that are entertaining and easy to understand.

Faculty selected to present during the Slam will have five minutes to engage the audience. Following the presentations, the audience will vote to determine a winner. Ciera Kirkpatrick, assistant professor of advertising and public relations, took first place at last year’s event.

Topic and video proposal

Those interested in presenting during the Slam must submit a 60-second video proposal addressing this question: What is the most important thing you’ve learned through sharing your research, scholarship, or creative activity with others?

The deadline to submit a video proposal is 5 p.m. Oct. 10. Applicants selected to present during the Slam will be invited to participate in specialized training to prepare their final talk. Slam finalists will be announced Oct. 18.

Submit video proposals using Microsoft Flip. Users who use the Flip app on their phone or tablet should enter the code neresearch to access the page. Special video equipment is not necessary to film a proposal; a cell phone or laptop webcam is sufficient.

A review committee organized by the Office of Research and Economic Development will select contestants based on content, creativity and engagement with the theme.

Prizes

Finalists will receive a swag bag in addition to the chance to present at the Faculty Slam on Nov. 15. The Slam winner will receive $1,000 that may be used to advance their research, scholarship or creative activity.

Rules

Faculty chosen to present during Nebraska Research Days must follow these guidelines for their final presentation.
