Nebraska Research Days will feature a Faculty Research and Creative Activity Slam at the Wick Alumni Center on Nov. 13, 4-6 p.m. Faculty from all disciplines are invited to submit short video proposals by Oct. 10 for an opportunity to present during the event.

The Slam offers faculty a platform to share their research, scholarship or creative endeavors through rapid-fire talks that are entertaining and easy to understand.

Faculty selected to present during the Slam will have five minutes to speak. A panel of judges from the Lincoln community will decide the winner. Attendees also will vote for their favorite presentation, with the top vote-getter receiving a special audience choice award.

Topic and video proposal

Faculty interested in presenting at the Slam must submit a 60-second video proposal addressing this question: Why does the world need your research or creative activity?

The deadline to submit a video proposal is Oct. 10 at 11:59 p.m. Based on content, creativity and engagement with the theme, a review committee organized by the Office of Research and Innovation will select up to five finalists to present at the Slam on Nov. 13. Finalists will be announced by Oct. 17 and will be invited to participate in specialized training to prepare their final talks.

Special video equipment is not necessary to film a proposal; a cell phone or laptop webcam is sufficient. Submit video proposals via Microsoft Teams as follows:

  1. Use your UNL credentials to sign into the Teams homepage, and click “Join or create team” in the upper right corner.
  1. Select “Join a team” and enter join code wx3k3ew to join the UNL-Faculty Slam class.
  1. On the Assignments tab, select “2024 Faculty Slam.”
  1. Follow the instructions to create and submit your video.

Prizes

The winning Slammer will receive $1,000 that may be used to advance their research, scholarship or creative endeavors. All finalists will receive a swag bag, and the winner of the audience vote will earn the coveted Golden Microphone Award.

Rules

Faculty chosen to present during Nebraska Research Days must follow these guidelines for their final presentation.

Following the presentations, the judges will confer to select the winning Slammer. The live audience will use electronic polling software to vote for the audience choice award.
