Faculty have until Oct. 10 to apply to present at the Faculty Research and Creative Activity Slam. The Slam, part of Nebraska Research Days, will be Nov. 19, 4-6 p.m. at the Wick Alumni Center.

The Slam offers faculty from all disciplines a platform to share their research, scholarship or creative endeavors through rapid-fire talks that are entertaining and easy to understand.

Faculty selected to present during the Slam will have five minutes to speak. A panel of judges from the Lincoln community will decide the winner. Attendees also will vote for their favorite presentation, with the top vote-getter receiving a special audience choice award.

Nirupam Aich, McNeel Associate Professor of civil and environmental engineering, took first place last year.  Becky Haddad, assistant professor of agricultural leadership, education and communication, won the audience choice award – a golden microphone that Jocelyn Bosley, research impact coordinator, dubbed the Slammy.

Topic and video proposal

Faculty interested in presenting at the Slam must submit a 60-second video proposal addressing this question: Who needs your research or creative activity, and how will it impact them?

The deadline to submit a video proposal is  11:59 p.m. Oct. 10 Based on content, creativity and engagement with the theme, a review committee organized by the Office of Research and Innovation will select up to five finalists to present at the Slam. Finalists will be announced by Oct. 17 and will be invited to participate in specialized training to prepare their final talks.

Special video equipment is not necessary to film a proposal; a cell phone or laptop webcam is sufficient. Submit video proposals via Microsoft Teams as follows:

  1. Click here to be added to UNL-Faculty Slam on Teams.
  2. Check your email for instructions on accessing the Teams class.
  3. Navigate to the Assignments tab and select “2025 Faculty Slam.”
