The Office of Research and Economic Development is seeking applicants to participate in a new multi-institutional initiative aimed at helping faculty develop competitive proposals for external funding.

Applications to InterFACE – Faculty Academy for Competitive Excellence – are due at 5 p.m. Feb. 23 via an online portal. The program’s focus for 2024 is strategic development of applications to the National Institutes of Health’s Research Project Grant Program (R01).

ORED will select a limited number of University of Nebraska-Lincoln faculty to participate in the program through a university-wide application process. Husker faculty are eligible to participate if they conduct research in areas fundable by NIH and have not yet received R01 support as principal investigators. Details about application requirements are available on the InterFACE website.

ORED senior administrators, in consultation with senior administrators in the applicants’ colleges/divisions, will make participant selection decisions in early March.

InterFACE is being co-developed by research development professionals at UNL, Montana State University, the University of Idaho and Utah State University. For InterFACE: NIH R01, programming will occur in April and May, followed by two rounds of proposal review during the summer and fall. The intended proposal submission date is February 2025. The full schedule is on the program website.

For additional information, contact Heather Borck, ORED’s research development program coordinator, 402-472-4090.
