Awards, Honors and Recognition 

Ed Cahoon, biochemistry, received the University of Nebraska’s President’s Excellence Award for Outstanding Research and Creative Activity. Cahoon’s research is aimed at enhancing the nutritional and industrial value of crop plants, helping to feed the world’s growing population. At the time of his nomination, Cahoon had published 128 papers, was an inventor or co-inventor on 34 U.S.-issued patents and had garnered more than $35 million in grants and contracts. As director of the Center for Plant Science Innovation, his leadership has positioned PSI as a cornerstone of plant biology research and a magnet for new faculty talent. He also led the effort to secure a $20 million National Science Foundation EPSCoR grant to establish the Center for Root and Rhizobiome Innovation. 

Publications

The Journal of Marketing accepted the paper of Andre Maciel, marketing, titled “Collaborative Market Driving: How Peer Firms Can Develop Markets Through Collective Action,” for publication. Maciel co-authored the paper with Eileen Fischer of York University. 

Fellowships

Edmund ‘Ted’ Hamann, teaching, learning and teacher education, has been named a fellow of the American Educational Research Association. AERA fellows are selected on the basis of their notable and sustained research achievements. The individuals are nominated by their peers, selected by a fellows committee and approved by the AERA Council, the association’s elected governing body.

The Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute has welcomed Felicia Marcus as a new member of its board of directors. Marcus is an attorney and consultant with 35 years of experience in organizational management, policy development, program implementation and public engagement at the federal, state and local levels. She currently serves on the Water Policy Group, a facility for governments and international bodies to access water sector experts, and recently served as chair of the State Water Resources Control Board for the state of California.
