The National Science Foundation has updated its Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide, or PAPPG, which is the agency’s source for information about the proposal and award process.
The revised version takes effect for proposals submitted or due on or after May 20. The revisions are intended to enhance clarity, consistency and alignment with current practices and federal policies.
A summary of all changes is located at the beginning of the guide. Updates most likely to impact University of Nebraska-Lincoln faculty during the submission process include the following:
- Proposal font, spacing and margin requirements have been modified to enable submission of proposal documents in landscape format.
- Biographical sketches, formerly limited to three pages, no longer have a page limitation.
- The synergistic activities section has been removed from the biographical sketch. This information must now be submitted by all individuals designated as senior/key personnel as part of the senior/key personnel documents in Research.gov. The new synergistic activities document is limited to one page and is still limited to five distinct examples.
- The postdoctoral mentoring plan requirement now extends to graduate students. For all budgeted postdocs or graduate students, a mentoring plan is required. The mentoring plan is still limited to one page.
