Food-tech startup workshops launch Sept. 20
A four-session workshop series is designed to help faculty, staff, postdocs and students consider a wide variety of topics related to starting a food-tech company.
“All About Food-Tech Startups” will be held Sept. 20, Sept. 27, Oct. 4 and Oct. 11 at the Food Innovation Center on Nebraska Innovation Campus, Room 220. Registration is open until 9 a.m. Sept. 13.
Participation in all four sessions is required, and lunch will be provided. The sessions are from 11 a.m.-noon.
The free workshops will introduce participants to training and networking opportunities. The program is built on the Lean LaunchPad approach to startups and the Business Model Canvas. Topics include intellectual property, product development and preparing a pitch deck. Each session includes additional resources and optional assignments to help deepen understanding of the subject matter.
During the final session on Oct. 11, guest speakers who have been on the food-tech startup journey will share their advice and lessons learned. Participants also will present a brief team pitch based on workshop learnings.
“The workshops will provide a safe environment and low-pressure way to practice talking about your ideas with other eager aspiring entrepreneurs,” said Joy Eakin, NUtech Ventures entrepreneurship program manager.
Graduate students may complete this workshop series for one credit hour. Individuals must register for the workshop first, then contact Julie McManamey, office associate in the Department of Food Science and Technology, to enroll for credit.
This event is co-hosted by NUtech Ventures, the Department of Food Science and Technology, and the Food Processing Center at Nebraska Innovation Campus.
