Fifteen University of Nebraska-Lincoln faculty members have been selected to participate in the 2023-24 cohort of the Office of Research and Economic Development’s Research Leaders Program. This initiative to identify and develop Nebraska’s next generation of research leaders is in partnership with the Center for Executive and Professional Development in the College of Business.
Participants were selected through a competitive application process. The 2023-24 Research Leaders Program faculty are:
- Justin Bradley, computing.
- Jessica Corman, natural resources.
- Erica DeFrain, libraries.
- Shudipto Dishari, chemical and biomolecular engineering.
- Eileen Hebets, biological sciences.
- Nathan Huynh, civil and environmental engineering.
- Alex Mason, child, youth and family studies and Nebraska Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families and Schools.
- Byrav Ramamurthy, computing.
- Clemencia Rojas, plant pathology and Center for Plant Science Innovation
- Rajib Saha, chemical and biomolecular engineering.
- Karrie Weber, biological sciences and earth and atmospheric sciences.
- Ricky Wood, civil and environmental engineering.
- Xiaoshan Xu, physics and astronomy.
- Changmin Yan, journalism and mass communications.
- Craig Zuhlke, electrical and computer engineering.
These research-active faculty will learn the information, skills and connections needed to assemble and lead teams in the pursuit of major extramural funding. The program begins in September and will conclude next April, when participants will present their plans for elevating their research, scholarship or creative activity to their colleagues and university leaders.
Bob Wilhelm, vice chancellor for research and economic development, said the program will help create a campus culture that is committed to increasing the impact of research and creative activity, a key aim of the N2025 strategic plan.
“This is the fourth cohort of the Research Leaders Program, which helps faculty develop their strengths and their leadership capacity,” Wilhelm said. “Past participants have seen their participation give them further skills to enable them to do great work that impacts Nebraska and the world, and we expect the same from this new group.”
Applications for the next cohort will be solicited in spring 2024. Visit the Research Leaders Program website for more details or contact Nathan Meier, assistant vice chancellor for research.
