The Nebraska Center for Energy Sciences Research is accepting preproposals for its 13th annual Energy Research Grants program. Preproposals are due 5 p.m. CDT May 18.
The internal competition, open to Nebraska faculty, supports innovative, interdisciplinary energy sciences research among university researchers and public- and private-sector partners. The grants are considered seed funding, aimed at helping Husker faculty build energy-related research capacity and gain a competitive edge for external funding.
The center seeks proposals in these focus areas, which are detailed in the RFP:
- Energy efficiency in agriculture.
- Utilization of co-products, bio-based renewables and energy from waste.
- Electric grid.
- Materials and devices for energy systems.
- Solar energy.
- Novel energy storage and carbon dioxide management.
The center’s external advisory committee will select teams to submit full proposals, giving priority to interdisciplinary teams who propose disruptive innovations and clean energy technology that would impact Nebraska, the nation and the world. Projects begin Jan. 1, 2019.
The center is a collaboration between the Nebraska Public Power District and the university. Its mission is to enhance university research on renewable energy sources and energy efficiency and conservation, and to expand economic opportunities and improve quality of life. The Energy Research Grants program is funded by NPPD.
