REDGI Background

A plan for growth

The Research and Economic Development Growth Initiative charts a course for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s research growth. REDGI is a framework for focusing on research excellence and reaching some of the key goals that UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman outlined in his 2011 State of the University Address. These goals include reaching $300 million in total research expenditures by 2017, doubling the number of faculty receiving prestigious national awards and increasing faculty engagement with the private sector.

Feedback from faculty and administrators campuswide is helping shape this initiative. In the 2012 spring semester, more than 300 faculty, administrators and staff participated in focused discussions and open forums.

REDGI is intended to highlight specific steps that will help UNL reach the goals that Chancellor Perlman outlined. It is intended to be a dynamic document that is regularly reviewed and updated. It also is intended to help colleges/institutes, departments/schools and centers integrate these goals into their overall strategic plans. Research metrics for individual units, colleges and UNL as a whole are available in a dashboard format in a newly-developed REDGI site, available in the “Reports” section of NUgrant.

If you have questions about REDGI or suggestions for enhancing this initative, please email them to UNLresearch@unl.edu.
