NASA is partnering with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to allow NASA-funded researchers to use the PubMed Central repository for peer-reviewed articles and associated data that were published or accepted by scientific journals on or after Oct. 1, 2015.

Using PubMed Central is not required under current NASA award rules but is available as a resource for investigators who want to make full-text versions of their papers publicly available. According to the NASA Shared Services Center, the change is in response to a 2013 directive from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy to make the results of federally funded scientific research more accessible to the public.

For instructions on depositing manuscripts in PubMed Central, email nasa-openaccess@mail.nasa.gov.
