The Nebraska Center for Energy Sciences Research is accepting applications for its summer undergraduate internship in energy sciences research. The deadline to apply is March 24. The application form and additional program details are available on the NCESR website.

The annual Darrell J. Nelson Summer Undergraduate Internship in Energy Sciences Research, now in its fourth year, offers recipients up to $5,000 to pursue a research project under the mentorship of a faculty sponsor. At the program’s conclusion, student interns present a poster at the Nebraska Summer Research Symposium. Information about previous program interns and their projects is available here.

The internship is named after Darrell J. Nelson, who served for 41 years on the Custer County Public Power District and the Nebraska Public Power District boards. Recognizing the need for the electric utility industry to innovate, Nelson in 2005 proposed a partnership between NPPD and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. This led to establishment of the NCESR in April 2006.
