"Maintaining an effective nuclear deterrent is much less expensive than fighting a war that we were unable to deter." - Secretary of Defense Mattis

This interactive session will provide an overview of the broad scope of potential research opportunities within NSRI's Nuclear Programs that are applicable to engineering, physical sciences, and social sciences. Related research areas span the entire range of nuclear security issues, including deterrence policies, threat analysis, weapon materials and design, nuclear command and control, war gaming, planning and decision support, nonproliferation, nuclear detection and forensics, counter-terrorism, and education.

The session will be led by Dr. Christopher Yeaw, the Research Director for Nuclear Programs at NSRI. Immediately prior to his appointment at NSRI, Dr. Yeaw was the National Nuclear Security Administration's Senior Policy Advisor for Defense Programs, having served as the Department of Energy's lead official in the development and rollout of the 2018 Nuclear Posture Review. He also brings over 25 years of federal service in the Intelligence Community and the Departments of State, Energy, the Navy, and the Air Force.

After the overview, Dr. Yeaw will lead an in-depth discussion based on faculty research interests and will be available for future one-on-one consultations.

The interactive session will be held from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, April 15th, in Room 152 of the Prem S. Paul Research Center at Whittier School (2200 Vine Street).
