The Office of Research and Economic Development will offer a two-part virtual workshop Nov. 29 to aid faculty in designing effective research impact plans.
Delivered by Jocelyn Bosley, ORED’s research impact coordinator, the workshop will take place via Zoom. The first session, Research Impacts 101, is 2-3 p.m., and the second, Developing Your Impact Identity, is 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Register by Nov. 28 to attend one or both of the training sessions.
Objectives of the event are to help faculty understand NSF’s broader impacts requirements, gain insight into how these plans are evaluated by reviewers and learn how the concept of impact identity enables them to leverage their strengths and values to maximize the impact of their research. Participants also will learn about successful broader impacts approaches used by others.
Research impacts encompass a research project’s potential to benefit society and contribute to desired societal outcomes. All proposals submitted to the National Science Foundation must address broader impacts, and other funders such as the U.S. Department of Agriculture are starting to implement similar requirements.
