Project execution is usually the longest and most demanding phase of a project. The project team must deliver value, meet goals, communicate daily, and minimize risk, all under budget and on time to meet the agreed-upon scope and fulfill the sponsor’s expectations and requirements.
Project managers play a significant role in supporting the day-to-day administrative management of the project. Project Management Office (PMO) project managers will:
- Manage the budget and procurement contracts, including those of subawardees.
- Provide monthly financial reports tailored to fit the project team and sponsor needs.
- Manage stakeholder communication.
- Solve issues as they arise.
- Maintain oversight of sponsor, federal, university, and state rules, regulations, and contractual terms and conditions.
This allows the project team to maintain their focus on directing and managing the project’s scope and tasks, specifically in:
- Managing the task workflows.
- Identifying and leading change management.
- Delivering value and quality.
- Directing and overseeing scientific compliance protocols.
- Effectively training and mentoring the project team.
