Investing in the Future

At the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, we’re building for the future with strategic investments in key areas of traditional and emerging research strengths.

We believe in taking on big challenges as we build our research enterprise. Our approach: define the vision, seek and support talented people with ambitious ideas, give them the best facilities and the freedom to innovate and create, and pursue partnerships that extend our reach. And always build with the future in mind. This report highlights some of our successes and aspirations.

UNL’s Materials Research Science and Engineering Center exemplifies our philosophy. MRSEC grew from the vision of faculty leaders and two decades of targeted university investments in the people and infrastructure needed to be in the forefront of the emerging field of materials and nanoscience. Funded by the National Science Foundation since 2002, our MRSEC has grown into an internationally known research center. The payoffs are clear: major discoveries and advances in nanomaterials; strong partnerships with national laboratories, industry and international institutions; and nationally recognized education and outreach programs.
