Nwedin1Nebraska has more Native American teachers than ever before.

That’s due in large part to a career training program run by Nancy Engen-Wedin that helps Native students earn bachelor’s degrees in teaching.

Much of Engen-Wedin’s work has been supported by grants from the U.S. Department of Education. She says the Office of Proposal Development has helped her write grants geared toward agency requirements, arranged for external reviewers to comment on her proposal prior to submission and helped her through the submission process.

“This is a one-stop shop. I love that,” says Wedin, a lecturer in the College of Education and Human Sciences and director of educational and creative initiatives for the Lied Center for Performing Arts.
