Oshibana Nebraska – Natural Element Art, An Artwork Display by Suzanne Spiehs

Date: Dec. 1 – 20, 2022
Location:  Nebraska Innovation Campus, 2nd Floor Link (free and open to the public daily from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.)
Contact: Brooke Goedert, (402) 472-5535, bgoedert2@unl.edu

Oshibana Nebraska is a collection of flowers and other botanicals grown in Nebraska that have been dried and pressed to create stunning pieces of art. Some natural elements have been picked from the wild, while others have been gathered from a garden.

Suzanne has a deep love of nature and the outdoors and began her journey as an artist by taking landscape photography. One day while taking a picture of some dried grass, she found herself wanting to preserve it just as was, because it was so beautiful. Two years later and after many hours spent picking, cleaning, drying and pressing all types of flowers and botanicals, she is ready to share some of her creations with the world.

Suzanne Spiehs is a NIC Partner and an administrative coordinator for UNL Industry Relations.

Julie Naughton, Marketing and Communications Manager, NUtech, started on November 28
A little bit about me: I am a 1991 UNL graduate and double-majored in journalism and English and minored in history and political science. After I graduated from UNL, I moved to New York City and worked as a journalist there for 25 years (including 17 years as a daily reporter for a publication called WWD.) I moved back to Lincoln in April 2016 to work as a public information officer for the state Department of Health and Human Services. Since August 2016, I’ve taught UNL undergrads as a lecturer, first teaching beginning reporting and now teaching an evening section of technical communications (a joint effort between the College of Journalism and Mass Communications and the College of Engineering.) For the past 15 years, I’ve also reviewed multiple categories of books for Publishers Weekly. Although  I’m a native Southern Californian, my mother is from Lincoln and we came back every summer to see my grandparents and extended family. I love to read and crafting is another huge passion (my Cricut and my jewelry-making tools get regular use.)

Tiffani is returning to ORED tomorrow in the vice chancellor’s office as a Lead Research Project Manager.  Tiffani will report to Becky Zavala.  Her office will be in Whittier.  There will be more information in next month’s OPEN Book introducing Tiffani.
