Staff encouraged to sign Cornhusker Commitment to combat COVID-19
In his July 24 email to the university community, Chancellor Ronnie Green encouraged staff and faculty to voluntarily sign the Cornhusker Commitment, which is a pledge to protect yourself, other people and the Husker community through a set of actions related to COVID-19 prevention and mitigation. ORED staff are encouraged to sign and support the campus community as we welcome students back to campus in August. All students will be asked to sign the pledge as well.

The university is also working to launch a testing site through a partnership with TestNebraska and the University Health Center. A designated site for testing will be established on campus. Additional information will be available prior to the start of classes.

New webpage available focused on remote work
Following the example set by Student Affairs, ORED added a new Working Remotely webpage to our OPEN site to provide resources for those who are working off campus.

THE MONTH IN PICTURES

Derek Bargmann’s new home in Seward

Derek Bargmann (Sponsored Programs) and his family — wife Molly and sons Burke, Briggs and Boston — recently completed a move to Seward. The home was built in 1914, but fully renovated in late 2019 to give a modern touch to a classic home — Molly was excited to re-home her 40+ house plants. They are excited to get plugged into a smaller community and for the slower pace of life. Burke starts kindergarten at Seward Public Schools next month, so the timing was right to make this move. Derek is looking forward to making that beautiful drive in on Highway 34 when things return back to normal.

Members of Belinda Gillum’s family in Colorado

Belinda Gillum, Sponsored Programs: My family recently had a blast in Colorado. For those of you who don’t know, I am an animal lover, which has rubbed off on my grandsons. First stop was a visit to a large animal wildlife sanctuary that had a three-mile roundtrip boardwalk above the animal compounds, then on to Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, which is on the side of a mountain. We also took in Manitou Springs, the Royal Gorge and Estes Park. From our hotel in Colorado Springs you could see both the Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak. We carried what my family referred to as our COVID kit. All of our photos will have face masks, but so did the elk statue that was sitting outside the ghost town we visited. We made great memories.

Maureen and Kevin

Terri Murray, Sponsored Programs, is proud to announce her daughter Maureen married her forever friend Kevin on June 6. Due to COVID-19 the wedding plans changed, but the day was amazing!
