Research Administration Essentials, Sept. 18-Oct. 30
The training program formerly known as NURAMP is now called Research Administration Essentials. The name change avoids confusion with the University of Nebraska’s new research administration platform, NuRamp, which is phasing in this year.

Research Administration Essentials reflects the nature of the training, which is designed to assist faculty and staff who are involved with research administration and give them the tools and resources necessary for success. The fall 2019 schedule is set, and this year, a few of the sessions will be available via Zoom.

Training sessions are Wednesdays at 1 p.m. in Room 152 of the Paul Research Center, 2200 Vine St. All ORED staff are invited to attend as their schedules allow, but registration is requested to ensure there are enough materials.

Sept. 18, 1-3:30 p.m., Budget Preparation and Development
Sept. 25, 1-2:30 p.m., Preparing and Submitting Proposals
Oct. 2, 1-2 p.m., Preparing for Awards and Managing Contracts
Oct. 9, 1-2:30 p.m., Research Responsibility

Phase-in of new NuRamp research platform is ongoing
On Aug. 26, the University of Nebraska started its transition to a common research administration platform. The new system will enable greater collaboration and efficiency across campuses as faculty and staff work together on grant submissions, award tracking and other key functions.

The first module of the new platform — which allows research and academic officers to create seed grant opportunities — went live Aug. 26. Other modules will come online in a phased approach.

UNL faculty and staff can access the new platform, called NuRamp, through the current NUgrant system. NUgrant will remain accessible until the transition to NuRamp is complete.

UNL faculty and staff can email unlresearch@unl.edu with questions.

Reminder: Stay up-to-date by using ORED calendar
It’s the start of a new school year and ORED is gearing up for another busy semester. Stay current with ORED happenings with the UNL Research Outlook calendar, which displays events, training sessions and activities.

Events listed on the calendar are current. Staff are encouraged to use the calendar as a reference for what’s happening when, and as a helpful tool for scheduling their own training opportunities and activities.

To access the calendar and add it to your calendar list, follow these steps:

(1) Open your calendar in Outlook.
(2) Right click on My Calendars.
(3) Select Add Calendar, then choose Address Book.
(4) Type UNL Research in the search box and highlight UNL Research from that list.
(5) Double click on UNL Research.
(6) Click OK.

After taking these steps, the UNL Research Calendar should open and show ORED events.

WATER COOLER CHAT

This past Monday, you may have noticed the hashtag #InternationalDogDay popping up all over your social media accounts, along with pictures of adorable four-legged creatures. Aug. 26 is in fact International Dog Day, founded in 2004 by animal advocate Colleen Paige in order to encourage pet adoption and recognize the importance of dogs and their impact on our lives.

In honor of the day, we want to hear about the pets of ORED. Tell us about your pet(s) here, and send pictures to Tiffany Lee.

THE MONTH IN PICTURES

Amanda Girres, Proposal Development, got engaged to Brendan Bohlin on Aug. 9 at Holmes Lake. The couple is planning a wedding for the spring of 2021.

The ORED team traveled to the Nebraska State Fair on Aug. 24 to host the Nebraska Lecture with Husker enthusiast Mike Babcock, the eighth talk in the N150 series. After the event, a crew of enthusiastic Future Huskers – Ava and Joel Cutsor, Evan Washburn and Micah Zavala – helped serve Nifty 150 ice cream to more than 350 hungry fairgoers. Thank you to Shelly Cutsor, Lisa Maupin, Nathan Meier, Laurie Sampson, Ashley Washburn and Becky Zavala for planning and staffing the event. Colleague Mike Zeleny commented that the ORED team deserved a “Grand Champion award for highest-energy exhibit at the fair.”
