The retirement reception for Daniel J Duncan has been rescheduled for March 27 at 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. We hope to see you there! Dan is retiring from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln after 36 years of hard work and dedication. This event is free and open to the public. Please RSVP.
Workshop proposals are currently being accepted for the third annual UNL All-Staff Conference – and you are invited to submit a workshop proposal! The conference will feature workshops that engage staff in conversation and interactive experiences around a variety of subthemes focused on the impact UNL staff make on the campus community. The 2023 conference theme is IMPACT: Cultivating Change Through Action to Create Lasting Impact. The conference will be held May 22-23, 2023, in the Nebraska East Union. Additional information about the theme, and the full request for proposals document, is provided on the UNL ALL-Staff Conference website (https://staff-conference.unl.edu). Proposals are due February 10, 2023, with acceptance announced in March 2023. Please visit https://go.unl.edu/staffconferenceproposals to submit all proposals.
Canfield Office Renovation
303 Canfield will be undergoing renovations starting February 6 which involves removing a couple of walls to open up the space to increase the number of workspaces available and also to connect the 301 and 303 suites. We are told this renovation should take about 2 months. We will keep you updated on this date as it is subject to change. Our relocation plans include moving Mari Greer over to the 301 suite, Nick Glass will relocate to his office in the facilities building, Rick Bevins will relocate to his RDAR/Psychology office and the Research Finance, Events and Outreach and Organizational Development teams will relocate to the 3rd floor of Whittier. We do not expect anyone in the 301 suite to be displaced at any point in the renovation.
ORED’s employee website is being revamped. Past OPEN Book newsletters, Team Spotlights, employee handbook, and the staff directory can be found on the website. More content and resources will be added around awards and recognition, performance management conversations, and development opportunities. The home page is https://research.unl.edu/open. HealthierU Opportunities
- HealthierU Movement Challenge: Sign up for a FREE online movement challenge that will run February 1-28th. Whether it’s walking, running, biking, or swimming we are challenging you to get up and move this month. In connection Heart Healthy Month we are encouraging all UNL employees to spend time focusing on their heart health by including physical activity in their daily activities. Welcome New ORED Team Members
Jadyn just graduated from South Dakota State University (SDSU) last December with a major in Animal Science. She rode on SDSU’s Equestrian Team for the last four years competing in western horsemanship. Someday Jadyn hopes to continue riding when she saves enough money to afford a horse!
Reneé comes from an eclectic vocational background. Her education is in Child, Youth and Family Studies but she began her career as a working photographer in a gallery studio downtown. After 12 years, she transitioned into a social services role in foster care at Cedars Youth Services. Since then, she has worked with several non-profits supporting foster and adoptive kids and their families. Reneé and her husband are adoptive parents of four and Reneé is a mentor for adoptive parents in crisis through Families Forever, a post adoption support agency.
Gamze joined the OSP Pre-award team on January 9th. Prior to that she was a Finance/Grants Specialist at an IANR business center where she handled pre- and post-award tasks while enjoying the beauty of East Campus during her lunch breaks.
She is very excited to be learning all aspects of the research administration world while working with this fun and hardworking team.
Gamze loves spending time with her family of five; her wonderful husband, sweet daughter, big tuxedo cat, and funny puppy. She enjoys all things related to puzzles and starts each day with a couple of Wordles and a Quordle while tackling an Octordle every now and then. Here is a pronunciation tip for her name: “g ahm – zay”.
Kate is a recent graduate of the College of Business at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Kate previously worked at Morrill Hall as a student and was a member of the Cornhusker Marching Band as a member of the flag line for 3 years. In her free time, Kate enjoys cross-stitching, playing games with friends, and roller skating.
Farewells
Elijah Luebbe last day in Sponsored Programs was January 13. Elijah will be the new Treasurer of the Nebraska District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. In the interim, please contact Suzan Lund for any assistance.
