Giesecke named University of Nebraska Press interim director
Joan Giesecke, dean of UNL libraries, will become interim director of the University of Nebraska Press in September.

"I'm delighted that Dr. Giesecke has agreed to serve in this important role," said Prem Paul, vice chancellor for research and economic development. "Her experience and energy will help us keep the Press on sound footing while we continue our search for a permanent director."

Giesecke will continue her responsibilities as dean of libraries while serving as interim director for the Press until a permanent director is hired. A consulting firm will assist in the search.

Ken Price, University Professor and Hillegass Chair of 19th Century American Literature and co-director of UNL's Center for Digital Research in the Humanities, will serve as director of the Press's advisory board.

"Having such excellent administrative and scholarly experience on board demonstrates our commitment to a vibrant Press," Paul said. The University of Nebraska Press was established in 1941, is the second largest state sponsored university press in the country and published 160 books in 2007.

Giesecke succeeds Ladette Randolph who is leaving the university to become editor of Ploughshares, the literary journal at Emerson College in Boston, Mass.
