Recruiting Graduate Students Belonging to Underrepresented Groups

Wednesday, May 16, 2007

Purpose:
Increasing enrollment of graduate students belonging to underrepresented groups is a campus priority. The purpose of these sessions is to bring UNL faculty together from diverse disciplines to share expertise and develop strategies to increase UNL’s enrollment.

Given the strong interest of this topic, we will focus on the following goals:
  1. Why increasing the diversity of the graduate student population is important to UNL, the state, and academic community.
  2. Discussion of strategies from departments who have been especially successful in recruiting and retaining top scholars from underrepresented groups.
  3. Identify areas of greatest opportunity for new initiatives and collaborations in the energy sciences (including policy, economics, and business) at UNL.
  4. Develop department action plans for identifying, recruiting, funding and retaining underrepresented students.
