It is sponsored by the Office of Research and Innovation and delivered in partnership with the Center for Professional and Executive Development in the College of Business. Up to 15 faculty will be selected to participate in the program annually through a campus-wide nomination and application process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Goal and Objectives<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal of the Research Leaders Program is to propel\nemerging research leaders \u2013 those individuals with the interest, vision and\nmotivation \u2013 to take their research programs to a higher and more collaborative\nlevel. The program will provide research-active faculty with the information,\nskills and connections they need to assemble and lead large-scale teams in the\npursuit of major extramural funding. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The objectives of the Research Leaders Program are for\nparticipants to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Develop the skills necessary to\neffectively build and manage large teams and projects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Produce actionable roadmaps to secure\nmajor external funding.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Network with like-minded colleagues,\nuniversity leaders and public\/private partners who can help advocate for and\nsupport the development of large, innovative and impactful research programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Content<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Research Leaders Program content will focus on the fundamentals of management and cutting-edge topics that high-impact research leaders need to know, including: strategic leadership, goal setting, team scholarship and design thinking. Sessions will rely heavily on experiential learning and participant engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The development of a personal research growth plan is a key element of the program. Participants will be coached on a one-on-one basis to develop an execution plan aimed at strengthening and elevating their research activities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A\nmajor benefit of the Research Leaders Program, in addition to learning new\nskills, is the networking that will be available to participants. These\ninteractions may yield new opportunities and collaborative connections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Schedule<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants must commit one day per month to the Research Leaders Program, which&nbsp;will run from September through February. They also must set aside one half day in March and another in April to finalize and present their research growth plans to their colleagues and UNL\u2019s&nbsp;senior&nbsp;leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/research.unl.edu\/researchleaders\/2024-2025-schedule\/\">Schedule for the 2026-2027 cohort is available here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eligibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Faculty eligible to apply for the Research Leaders Program include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Associate professors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Research&nbsp;associate&nbsp;professors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Professors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Research professors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nominations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>UNL faculty and administrators are invited to nominate eligible faculty for the Research Leaders Program. Nominators must submit the faculty member\u2019s name, title and a brief description (150-word maximum) of why the nominee is positioned to emerge as a UNL research leader. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nominations for the 2026-2027 Research Leaders Program are due by 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2026. Nomination is not a prerequisite for submitting an application. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications for the 2026-2027 cohort will open April 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications for the 2026-2027 Research Leaders Program are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026. Applicants must submit their contact information; a short statement of interest, vision and readiness; and a copy of their full curriculum vitae or resume (including complete publication and external funding records).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/research.unl.edu\/events\/event_nuramp.php?EMSEventUUID=e33eec58-3356-49b8-9a35-5850218eb886\">See more details or submit a Research Leaders Program application.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Review Criteria and Selection Process<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications will be co-reviewed by senior leaders from the Office of Research and Innovation and the applicants\u2019 academic units. The Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation will make the final selection in July.
