Home Run Terrace at Haymarket Park – Home of the Lincoln Saltdogs<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

ORED Staff and Family Picnic<\/strong> – Thursday, August 3rd – 6:00 p.m.
The annual ORED staff and family picnic will be this week on Thursday from 6:00-10:00 p.m. at Haymarket Park Stadium in the Home Run Terrace (under the scoreboard). If you RSVPed you will attend, your tickets to the Saltdogs baseball game and picnic will be delivered to your work address before Thursday. The stadium doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the first pitch will be at 7:05 p.m.  A catered picnic dinner will begin when the doors open at 6:00. Once you get to the park, head to the right, under the scoreboard to eat and watch the game.  The Lincoln Saltdogs<\/a> will be taking on the Chicago Dogs.  Contact Becky Carter<\/a> with questions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

T2T is a foundation that pays off the mortgages of first responders who die in the line of duty and builds smart homes for veterans who have lost limbs in the line of duty. After Lincoln Police Officer Mario Herrera was killed in the line of duty, Tunnel to Towers paid off the family’s mortgage. Help us help this amazing organization! Book Discussion Group – What If? Short Stories to Spark Inclusion and Diversity Dialogue by Steve L. Robbins<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

ORED Learning and Development in partnership with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion’s #NCLUDE program will read short stories from the book What If: Short Stories to Spark Inclusion & Diversity Dialogue by Steve L. Robbins. The goal is to increase our knowledge and skillset specific to diversity and inclusion so that we can create more inclusive team cultures. This group is a great match for anyone newer to learning about diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) or new to applying DEI concepts.

The format for the book club is committing to attend a one-hour Zoom group discussion approximately every other week.  It should take approximately 30-60 minutes to read the materials prior to the Zoom group discussions.  It is expected that you will commit to attending each session as capacity is limited.  Books are available for check-out from the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.   

Meetings via Zoom:  Tuesdays, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Central Time on August 29, September 12, 26, and October 10, 24, 31 (one week between 5th and 6th meetings).   Click here to register<\/a>.

ORED Learning and Development in partnership with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion’s #NCLUDE program will read and discuss The Person You Mean to Be:  How Good People Fight Bias by Dolly Chugh.  Dolly applies a growth mindset to help confront difficult issues, including sexism, racism, inequality, and injustice.  “She argues that the only way to be on the right side of history is to be a good-ish –rather than a good– person.  Good-ish people are always growing.”

About #NCLUDE Learning Groups<\/strong>
#NCLUDE is designed so individuals who desire to grow their knowledge, skills, and awareness in a particular DEI-related area can do so in an environment of care, commitment, and accountability. Learning groups co-create a space for students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members to engage in dynamic dialogue, reflection, and support.  Each semester, #NCLUDE will offer a mix of learning groups anchored by one or two individuals.  Registration for more #NCLUDE groups will be available August 7.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hello! My name is Nate Hatch and I have just joined NUtech Ventures as a Technology Commercialization Fellow! Having recently obtained my Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, I am excited to contribute my knowledge and skills to Nebraska’s burgeoning ecosystem of innovation. When not working, I enjoy going to concerts, hiking with my wife and dogs, and playing board games with friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hi everyone! I’m Nick Kumpula and I’m ecstatic to be back here at UNL. I’m a lifelong Nebraska native and I received my undergraduate degree in Broadcasting while working as a Music Director for the college station, 90.3 KRNU. I’ve worked in TV production, audio\/video editing, graphic design, marketing, and promotions – and I’m looking forward to bringing all that to ORED! Outside of work I love painting, teaching myself instruments (poorly), and staring at my extensive boardgame collection. Coffee, cat memes and music-talk are what keeps me going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My name is William Johnston, I received my degree in Sport Management from the University of South Dakota where I competed as a Division 1 springboard diver. I am planning on getting a dog near the end of this year. My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving because it’s a time where the most family gets together. I love to bake pies, I know how to make pies completely from scratch, but my favorite dessert is cheesecake! I am starting to make golf pencils out of golf balls as a small side business.

Mary Guest <\/strong>(Vice Chancellor’s Office) served as the NAEOP National Conference co-chair.  The conference was held July 17-19 at the Omaha Hilton Downtown.  She also was a presenter at the conference on Parliamentary Procedure.  She loves talking Parli Pro and cannot stand the misuse of ‘call the question’ as people use it to intimidate.  UNL’s Vice Chancellor of Business and Finance, Mike Zeleny<\/strong>, gave the welcome at the conference.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joy Eakin (<\/strong>NUtech Ventures) organized and hosted a two-day workshop called “From Idea to Startup”.  <\/strong>They had about 30 participants (mostly faculty and grad students) join us at NIC for two full days of learning about entrepreneurship and networking. Lots of speakers and resource providers came to share stories and resources with the participants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
