ORED Ice Cream Social<\/strong>
The 2023 ORED Staff Ice Cream Social on Monday, July 10, 2:30-4:30 p.m. at the East Campus Union, Fireplace room and South patio (1st floor near Starbucks).\u00a0\u00a0Vice Chancellor Bob Wilhelm will share highlights from the past academic year and we will enjoy ice cream with toppings of your choice or non-dairy sorbet. ORED Staff and Family Picnic<\/strong>
The annual ORED staff and family picnic is set for Thursday, August 3, from 6:00-10:00 p.m. at Haymarket Park Stadium in the Home Run Terrace (under the scoreboard). You are invited to join your colleagues for a picnic and a Saltdogs baseball game.\u00a0 The stadium doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the first pitch will be at 7:05 p.m.\u00a0 A catered picnic dinner will begin when the doors open at 6:00. Families and special guests are encouraged to attend.\u00a0 The\u00a0Lincoln Saltdogs<\/a>\u00a0will be taking on the Chicago Dogs.\u00a0 Please\u00a0RSVP<\/a>\u00a0by July 24. The Local Art Plug Summer Jam<\/a> is happening tomorrow at Nebraska Innovation Campus from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. This is a free, family-friendly event celebrating the collaboration of creatives and entrepreneurs from the Omaha and Lincoln communities. Be one of the first to see the new installment of local artists’ work displayed in the Nebraska Innovation Campus art gallery curated by Local Art Plug. There will be vendors, musicians, poets, food, a silent art auction, and much more in the NIC Plaza (outdoor space). Come make some summer memories!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hi! I am Bailey Rosberg. I was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska. I attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and then Nebraska College of Law. I am very excited to be back at the University. I live with my husband and two dogs, Daphne, a miniature dachshund and Zoe, a beagle. My son, Oliver, was just born May 16th. He was born early and is still in the hospital. We look forward to bringing him home sometime in the next month!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hello everyone, my name is Elijah J. Paulson. I recently graduated from the mechanical engineering program here at UNL. I also have a background in machining which I have been doing for 15 years in Omaha. I was given the irresistible opportunity to be the machinist for innovation studio where I look forward to helping members complete a wide variety of metal working projects. In my free time, I enjoy restoring classic cars and playing classic video games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hello! My name is Travis Ray and I am excited to join NIS and help our maker community thrive. I spent the past 8 years at The Career Academy teaching engineering, physics, and computer science to high school and college students. My wife Rebekah and I spend most of our free time caring for our toddler Alina (15 months), usually while she chases our cat Penny around the house. We also serve as Youth Pastors and technology\/worship leaders at our local church.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Charley Hill, <\/strong>External Funding Opportunity Coordinator, VCRED (Research Development), started June 9<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Hello, I’m Charley! I am joining ORED with seven years of service at IANR, having most recently been a Grants Accountant in the Finance & Personnel office. I’m excited to join OREDs Research Development Group where I can build upon my experience with grants and external funding in a more innovative way. Fun fact: I’ve now worked on all three UNL campuses.\u00a0\u00a0When I’m not at work, I’m almost always spending time with my fiance, Daniel, and our 10-year-old son, Oliver. I love being outdoors, whether it’s camping, gardening, hiking, or even just walking our 2-year-old Golden Retriever, Willow. I’m a UNL alumna with a degree in Art, so I’m also commonly found paint-speckled from some sort of art project.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heather Borck,<\/strong>\u00a0Research Development Coordinator, VCRED (Research Development), started June 9.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

I’m extremely excited to be joining the ORED team as the Research Development Program Coordinator. In total, I have eight years of experience with UNL. My roles have included Grants\/Finance Specialist in the Natural Resources Business Center (IANR) as well as a Youth Development Extension Educator in western Nebraska (North Platte and Oshkosh). In between my UNL experiences, I moved back to my hometown of Santa Rosa, California and managed the competitive exhibits program for Sonoma County Fair (think judging of wine, livestock, quilts etc.). In my free time, I’m enjoying reacquainting myself with Lincoln (I am a UNL graduate: BS Agriculture Economics and MS Leadership Education). I also enjoy visiting local festivals and fairs.\u00a0I gladly welcome any suggestions on must try\/see events across the Midwest.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve been working all over the university and industry recently in the area’s of making, engineering, design. I interned at Innovation studio as an undergraduate and I’m excited to return to build out new and exciting programs at the makerspace! I enjoy the application of technology and engineering to creative practices like art and design. In my freetime I enjoy going to movies, reading and listening\u00a0to podcasts, though I’ve recently gotten into sewing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After several years working around the world as a Roller Coaster Engineer, I’m excited to be returning to the NIS team! Traveling is fun, but takes a toll – I’ve missed the many toys and tools Innovation Studio has to offer, and look forward to expanding our offerings into Robotics and Automation. When not in the studio (which is rare), I hope to be frequenting Lincoln’s many wonderful bike trails, restaurants, and garden centers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After graduating with my bachelor’s from UNL in May, I am excited to join Research Compliance Services at UNL! Some of my hobbies include reading, writing, and cooking. My favorite genres include sci fi, fantasy and comedy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My name is Riley Kimbrough and I just recently graduated from UNL with a major in biology and minor in psychology. I previously worked in the RCS office as a student worker but am now on the team full-time as a Conflict-of-Interest Specialist! Some activities I enjoy doing in my free time include reading and scouting out new horror movies to watch, one of my favorites being the Halloween saga.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nathan Meier<\/strong>, assistant vice chancellor for research development, will serve as president of the National Organization of Research Development Professionals (NORDP) from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

In 2019, Nathan was specially appointed to a two-year term on the NORDP board. He was elected by NORDP’s members to serve a four-year board term beginning in 2021. In 2022, Nathan was unanimously selected by NORDP’s 15 other directors to serve as the organization’s vice president\/president elect (2022-2023), president (2023-2024), and immediate past president (2024-2025).

NORDP is a professional organization dedicated to advancing the global capacity for and impact of research by strengthening the practice and profession of research development. The organization has 1,200 members from over 450 institutions of higher education and other research-focused organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Way to go!\u00a0 We had 100% completion on the 188 performance conversations for the January 15-April 30 window.\u00a0 The new window for performance conversations will open on July 15 and run through October 31.\u00a0 Training will be offered for new people and anyone who would like a refresher on the process.\u00a0 You will receive an email letting you know the window has opened and information about registering for training.\u00a0 If you have any questions, contact Becky Carter<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
