Melissa Bausch, Clinical Veterinarian, Institutional Animal Care Program – started June 1<\/strong>
Melissa grew up on a farm raising sheep and going on veterinary calls with her dad in Pawnee County Nebraska. She has a bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Nebraska\/Iowa State University Cooperative Program in Veterinary Medicine. During undergrad and a portion of veterinary school, Melissa was a student worker in the Life Sciences Annex gaining experience with research protocols and animals used in research and teaching missions. During her clinical year, she expanded on her interest in laboratory animal medicine by participating in multiple externships such as working with non-human primates at Charles River Laboratories as well as developing a fondness for anesthesia. Melissa is excited to rejoin team IACP in the role of Clinical Veterinarian to support excellence in animal care, cutting edge research, and hands-on learning experiences for students.

When not at work, Melissa enjoys spending time with her dog, reading, and being outdoors.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Brande Dicks, Research Business Services Specialist, Research Finance – returned to ORED on July 5<\/strong> 
Brande returned to the ORED team and will be assisting the Center for Brain, Biology and Behavior and the Nebraska Center for Virology’s faculty in building budgets and submitting grant proposals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Becky Carter, Organizational Development Specialist, ORED – started on July 5<\/strong>
Becky has worked at UNL for the past 18 years, most recently as a Senior Human Resources Specialist at IANR Finance and Personnel.  In her new role, she will support ORED’s organizational development initiatives to maintain and improve the overall culture of the organization.  She will also be responsible for developing and sourcing training programs for campus staff and faculty involved in sponsored research.  Becky lives with her husband, Todd, and two boys, Garret and Davis.  When she is not cheering at baseball or basketball games, she enjoys gardening, kayaking and taking part in any creative process.  <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Gyoung Kwon and L.D. Miller were married Tuesday, July 12, 2022, in Hawaii. They spent the rest of the week doing tourist activities including walking on the beach, a luau, and snorkeling. They enjoyed the Hawaii beaches, weather, and hospitality.

Travel note: If you plan on visiting the Battleship Arizona memorial, make sure to get tickets online well in advance. The tickets are cheap but sell out weeks in before (because tour companies scoop them up).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Bob and Lynda Wilhelm were in Portland Oregon recently for the wedding of their daughter Menaka and her fianc\u00c3\u00a9 Alex.  From left to right in the photo are Amelia Wilhelm, Menaka Wilhelm, Alex Flood, Lynda Wilhelm and Bob.

The wedding, planned by the bride and groom, was quite an eclectic affair. Amelia served as the officiant and as maid of honor.  The wedding was outdoors in the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden with a blue grass band providing music.  Menaka wore a sari that has been in the family for three generations. Guests attended from many parts of the U.S. and four continents.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

One of our newest team members in post award, Wilma Gerena, has volunteered with the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) for more than a decade. Among the various leadership positions held at the local level, Wilma has volunteered at national level activities involving youth in aviation. Her most memorable event as a volunteer occurred in 2015 as she witnesses her own son Derrick, then 16 years old, complete his solo flight at the North Central Region Powered Flight Academy. As a mother, it was nerve wracking, as a volunteer it was an accomplishment.   

Civil Air Patrol, the official U. S. Air Force Auxiliary, is a civilian, volunteer, nonprofit, service organization. Its unpaid members perform more than 80 percent of inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center. Volunteers also take a leading role in aerospace education and conduct one of America’s finest youth programs, the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program. In addition to aviation education, the Cadet Program offers youth an incredible opportunity to shape their lives, build character, and develop leadership skills they will need in their lives and careers.

The opportunities available to adults and youth in CAP abound. The local unit, 155th Composite Squadron will conduct an Open House Monday, August 8th<\/strong> at the Communications Building, Nebraska Air National Guard Base, at 2420 W. Butler Avenue in Lincoln, beginning at 6:30 pm.  <\/strong>Membership is open to young people from ages 12 to 18 for the cadet program, and adults ages 18 and older for seniors.
